No, no. It's not about me...it's about YOU. I write this stuff for fun, and largely to provide a source of information about certain games (TF2, The Sims 3) directly from a user point of view. The Sims 3: Elders and other elements of life (and death)
I found that my Sims 3 FAQ page was getting a little long and the word count a bit heavy, so I have decided to split it up into separate pages on particular subjects. This page is about Elders and some of the other more boring elements of Sims 3 life. I have tried to put the questions in a form of chronological order.

In The Sims 3 my sim has aged up and I dont like his clothes, what can I do?
You can change them. Unlike in The Sims 2 where you had to go out into the town to buy new clothes, in The Sims 3, you can buy a dresser/wardrobe, and when you use the action to change clothes, it takes you to the Create A Sim, allowing you to choose any of the clothes available in the game.
On the Sims 3 how many outfits can a sim have?
A sim can have an infinite amount of outfits because it works differently to The Sims 2. In the previous game you used to have to purchase the clothes from downtown and bring them home. Now, when a sim approaches a dresser/chest of drawers/wardrobe they can change into any outfit from the entire range of sim clothing available on your computer. I kid you not. Everything is selectable here, and that’s so much better than it was before.
In The Sims 3, why do sims go everywhere in a taxi?
Normally because you don’t have a car in the household?
At what age do elder sims die in The sims 3?
Now you see, that’s a pretty difficult question to answer. There are, if I remember correctly three age settings for your sims. Also, if I remember correctly they affect all sims in the town and not just the active sim. I believe there is one for a Short life where they live for about 25 days or so. Then there’s the Medium Life which the default, and most of mine live until somewhere in their 80s or 90s. Then there’s the Long Life where they last for hundreds of days. The short lifespan would be too short for most, so the medium one is probably right. The long one is if you’re truly up for a challenge – I’m not sure I could cope with one particular sim for that long!
However, it doesn’t end there. Certain other elements contribute to the length of a sim’s life. A vegetarian sim will live longer. A sim that is seemingly very happy most of the time lives longer, in my experience anyway. Sims that fulfill their lifetime wish seem to live longer.
How can you kill off sims?
I haven’t really done this yet, so my answer sucks. So far mine have only died of old age (and one electrical accident), however I believe it’s not as simple to kill them off as it was before. You used to be able to put them into a pool with no ladders and they would die of exhaustion and drown. In The Sims 3 they are able to climb out the side of a pool. Bugger, huh? I’ve heard people online say that you can still kill them by drowning by making them get into a pool just before they’re about ready to pass out through exhaustion and they will drown. Then of course there is starvation route – just put walls around them to stop them from getting anywhere near the food and they’ll eventually die. Electrocution (for me) was an accident, caused by a sim who didn’t have enough handiness skill and was repairing a broken stereo.
